BOSTON (AP) - New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady says he was “blown away by the bravery and the teamwork” of firefighters who battled a fatal fire in his Boston neighborhood.

The blaze Wednesday in an apartment building in the Back Bay claimed the lives of two firefighters.

Brady told WEEI-FM on Thursday he was alerted to the fire by his wife, Gisele Bundchen, and watched from the deck of his home, which he described as “about four doors down” from the burning building.

Brady says the family eventually left when they saw an explosion and firefighters leave the building and realized how serious it was.

Brady says professional athletes sometimes think of themselves as heroes, “but when you witness firsthand what I saw yesterday, you realize who the real heroes are in this world.”
