JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The identity of a female skull found in a rural area of Panola County months ago is still undetermined, and officials are hoping DNA tests and anthropologists can tell them more.
The Clarion-Ledger reports (https://on.thec-l.com/1hd4dcL ) the skull was found in January, when an area resident searching the woods for a missing horse came across it.
Two weeks ago, searchers returned to the area. In what they planned to be a routine grid search, Panola County coroner Gracie Gulledge says they came across two long bones believed to be human femurs.
Gulledge says the skull has been sent to a forensic anthropologist to possibly determine the age of the victim and how long the body had been in the woods.
