VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) - Members of a North Dakota National Guard unit based in Valley City have been notified that they might be called to active duty.

About 15 soldiers with the 231st Brigade Support Battalion Logistical Support Element have been put on alert. If they are mobilized, they will serve in Afghanistan later this year.

Guard Commander Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk (sprihn-sih-NAT’-ihk) says the soldiers would support supply operations for U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan.

Soldiers with other North Dakota Guard units currently are serving overseas in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Kuwait, and in the U.S. in Washington, D.C., and on the southern border.
