NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Hampton Roads Transit and the city of Portsmouth are waging a legal battle over payments for bus service.
The transit agency claims Portsmouth owes it at least $633,000. The Virginian-Pilot (https://bit.ly/1l3vS0u ) reports that the agency has sued the city to recover the money.
The lawsuit says Portsmouth has been withholding a portion of its quarterly payments to the transit agency since last year.
The city has filed a counterclaim seeking a judgment of at least $2.6 million against the transit agency. The counterclaim says the transit agency billed the city for years for bus routes that went into Norfolk, Chesapeake and Suffolk.
City officials and transit agency staff declined to comment on the case.
