GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - A suspect in a 2001 slaying in Southeast Texas who was captured in Mexico has been returned to Galveston.
Galveston County jail records show 32-year-old Jose Pablo Lopez was being held Wednesday on a capital murder charge. Lopez also faces a probation violation count related to injury to a child or elderly person.
No attorney was listed for Lopez, whose bond was set at $1.2 million.
Galveston police on June 18, 2001, responded to a call about shots fired. Mario Espinosa was found slain at a home.
Investigators secured a capital murder warrant for Lopez, who was arrested in 2012 in Mexico. He fought extradition but was returned Tuesday to Galveston.
Two other men convicted in the slaying received 40-year prison terms. Another suspect remains on the run.
