RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - Prosecutors say a man shot to death at a crowded Riverside County restaurant seven years ago was working as an informant and authorities had to drop their case on a drug trafficking ring after his death.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise says (https://bit.ly/1iAtgGF ) evidence was presented Tuesday during a preliminary hearing for 34-year-old Edgar Alvarez, who is accused of killing Emeon Hernandez in 2006.
Prosecutors say Alvarez targeted the 49-year-old Hernandez after Hernandez had offered to make a deal with Chicago authorities and federal agents.
Paul Sabin, a retired Cook County assistant state attorney, testified that Hernandez had been arrested with Alvarez and a third man, Francisco Vasquez, in October 2006 in Chicago.
Sabin said Hernandez later met with prosecutors to discuss testifying to a grand jury about Alvarez’s drug operation.
