ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The state Department of Environmental Conservation has ticketed two men for illegally dumping about 200 dead geese, ducks, pheasants and partridges beside a dirt road on private property in the Rensselaer County town of Nassau.
The charge is a violation punishable by a fine of $1,500 to $15,000 and/or up to 15 days in jail.
DEC Regional Director Gene Kelly says the men are members of the Tri Village Bowhunters club in Nassau, which got the birds from a local fire department that holds a large annual game dinner. The birds were left over from that dinner and donated to the hunting club for to be eaten.
The birds were domestic game birds from a licensed shooting preserve in Dutchess County. DEC investigated after a passer-by complained about the bird pile.
