SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Authorities say a motorcyclist struck and killed by an alleged drunken driver in the San Francisco Bay Area was a U.S. Marine who had just returned from Afghanistan last month.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1hr4NA4) 23-year-old Andrew Silva of Union City died in the crash Tuesday in Fremont.

An Emeryville man, Alexander Yohn, was arrested after allegedly crashing his Mini Cooper into Silva’s motorcycle and then into a utility pole. Police say officers took the 23-year-old into custody in a nearby field.

Witnesses say earlier Yohn had been acting belligerently and appearing intoxicated at a Taco Bell restaurant.

He was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run causing death or injury.

Silva was a Marine lance corporal who had returned from Afghanistan in February.
