MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Jon Huntsman Jr., the former Utah governor and one-time Republican presidential hopeful, is scheduled to deliver the University of Wisconsin-Madison commencement speech on May 17.

The university announced Wednesday that Huntsman will give the address at a joint ceremony for both undergraduates and those receiving master’s degrees.

Huntsman was Utah’s governor from 2005 to 2009, when Barack Obama chose him to serve as U.S. Ambassador to China. He was also ambassador to Singapore from 1992 to 1993.

Huntsman serves on the boards of Ford Motor Company, Caterpillar Corporation, Huntsman Corporation and the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation.

The university says class leaders chose Huntsman because of his long and successful career in public service. Huntsman got his start in politics as an aide to President Ronald Reagan.
