NEW YORK (AP) - The New York City Council is asking for Albany to allow the city to use state funds to pay for a rental subsidy program for the homeless.
Language in the state budget prohibits the city from using the money.
It was placed there since a rent subsidy program called Advantage was cut in 2011 due to a lack of funding.
Mayor Bill de Blasio had vowed to restore the program.
His homelessness services commissioner said Tuesday that the administration would lobby Albany for the change.
But Gov. Andrew Cuomo then said it was “too late” in the budget process. The state budget is due April 1.
De Blasio said later Tuesday that there had been a “miscommunication” with Albany and vowed to resolve it. The city council has pledged support.
