MURRAY, Ky. (AP) - Murray Ledger & Times Publisher Alice Rouse is retiring to the position of publisher emeritus and will be succeeded by Mike Davis, who has served newspapers in Virginia and Kentucky.

Rouse has been with the newspaper almost 40 years, beginning as a bookkeeper in 1975. She became publisher in 2001 following the retirement of the late Walt Apperson.

The Murray Ledger & Times (https://bit.ly/1htl5IO ) reports Davis has 34 years of newspaper experience and was publisher of the Hopewell News in Hopewell, Va., for the past three years. He previously was general manager of the Appalachian News-Express in Pikeville, Ky.

He was introduced to the western Kentucky newspaper’s staff earlier this month.
