PRAGUE (AP) - The Czech Republic is giving up its candidacy to be one of 13 countries to co-host the 2020 European Championship.

The Czech Republic declared its interest to UEFA in September, but the country’s football federation head Miroslav Pelta says the final bid won’t be submitted by the April 25 deadline because the government is not ready to provide the necessary guarantees to build a new stadium in Prague.

For a successful bid, the country needs to build a new venue that seats at least 30,000.

After meeting Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka on Wednesday, Pelta told Czech public television: “We won’t submit the candidacy.”

The tournament will be contested in 13 stadiums in 13 countries, and UEFA’s executive committee will choose the host cities in September 2014.
