LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A University of Kentucky professor is featured in a new five-part public television documentary premiering next month in Kentucky.
Amy Murrell Taylor offers commentary throughout “Civil War: The Untold Story.” The university’s website says Taylor is an associate professor of history at UK and has researched and written about the Civil War and its effects on families.
Executive producer Chris Wheeler says in a news release that Kentucky’s role as a border state figures in the series, and the story of President Abraham Lincoln’s brother-in-law, Confederate Gen. Benjamin Hardin Helm of Elizabethtown, is also recounted. Helm was killed at the Battle of Chickamauga and is buried in Elizabethtown.
The series starts on KET on April 6 and is narrated by actress Elizabeth McGovern, who plays Cora in Masterpiece’s “Downton Abbey.”
