BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Virginia Tech’s Board of Visitors has approved three new degree programs in high-tech science fields.

The Roanoke Times (https://bit.ly/1fXtH9o ) reports that the Board of Visitors voted unanimously Monday to approve bachelor’s degrees in microbiology, nanoscience and computational modeling and data analytics.

The degrees also must be approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

Suzanne Obenshain is chairwoman of the board’s Academic Affairs Committee. She says the proposed degrees would help the university meet the workforce demands of the future.
