ROSEVILLE, Mich. (AP) - Police say a heroin addict trying to steal a drill from a Home Depot store in suburban Detroit repeatedly stabbed a guard with a used syringe.

Twenty-six-year-old Joshua J. Silva was arraigned Tuesday in Roseville District Court on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and retail fraud. The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens, The Detroit News and MLive.com say a judge set bond at $25,000.

Police Chief James Berlin says Silva was stopped Monday afternoon from a Home Depot in Roseville.

Berlin says that Silva stabbed a store security officer several times. He says a customer with a concealed firearm permit ordered Silva to stop, and police arrested him.

The Associated Press left a message with a court clerk Tuesday asking if Silva has a lawyer.
