SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The interior of the Lincoln Tomb Historic Site is to reopen April 1.
The tomb in Springfield’s Oak Ridge Cemetery has been closed for months while crews took on repair work. The exterior of the tomb has been open for tourists, but not the interior where Lincoln, his wife Mary and three of his four sons are buried.
State officials said Tuesday that the tomb would reopen April 1. They say workers fixed cracks, repaired water damage to ceilings and repainted areas.
There is no admission fee and the tomb will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The repairs come as the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s death nears in 2015.
The 117-foot-tall tomb was dedicated in 1874.
