WASHINGTON (AP) - With a week left before the District of Columbia’s Democratic mayoral primary, Mayor Vincent Gray has more money left to spend than any of his rivals.
The campaigns’ last financial reports before the primary were due at midnight Monday. The primary is April 1.
Gray has raised $1.2 million since he entered the race in December and has $322,000 left to spend. Rivals Muriel Bowser and Jack Evans have raised more money overall, but they’ve spent more, too. Bowser has $204,000 in cash on hand, and Evans has $179,000. Bowser and Evans are both D.C. councilmembers.
The other five candidates are lagging far behind in fundraising. Councilmember Tommy Wells is refusing corporate contributions and has touted his support from individual donors.
