ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has directed the Port Authority to address noise issues at Kennedy and LaGuardia airports and concerns of residents of Queens, the Bronx and Nassau County on Long Island.

Authority Executive Director Pat Foye says they’re already taking steps to double portable noise monitors and establish a new Aviation Noise Office responsible for reviewing noise data and responding to complaints. He says the agency is also streamlining the system for making specific complaints at 1-800-225-1071 and is hiring a consulting firm to help with the study.

The authority plans to start roundtable discussions next month with Federal Aviation Administration officials and community representatives.

Similar efforts at other airports have revamped flight routes and approach procedures, encouraged airlines to use quieter planes and resulted in soundproofing to some properties.
