JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Gov. Sean Parnell says more than 160 communities plan to hold rallies and marches Thursday drawing attention to the state’s “epidemic” of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Parnell and his wife plan to lead the “Choose Respect” rally in Valdez.

Parnell, in a release, said promoting the value of respect empowers more Alaskans to speak out against sexual abuse and domestic violence.

Administration officials will once again lead events across the state, with state Revenue Commissioner Angela Rodell scheduled to lead the march in Juneau.

Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell is slated to lead events in Wasilla.
