KIEV, Ukraine (AP) - The Court of Arbitration for Sport has upheld the disqualification of Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk from this season’s Ukraine Cup and the club’s fine of nearly $10,000 for missing a cup match last year.
The ruling confirmed a Dec. 19 decision by Ukraine’s football body that punished Dnipro for not playing a scheduled Oct. 30 match against Chornomorets Odessa. Dnipro cited severe fog for not being able to land in the portside city in southwestern Ukraine for the round of 16 game.
Meanwhile, the two Crimean clubs in Ukraine’s domestic league reiterated their intention Tuesday of completing the season following Russia’s annexation of the peninsula.
Tavria Simferopol spokesman Viktor Romanov says “we have an iron-clad desire to remain in the Ukrainian league until the end of the season.”
FC Sevastopol president Oleksandr Krasilnikov says his club “continues competing in the Ukrainian Premier League.”
