TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The University of Arizona is putting money on the table in hopes of attracting more funding for defense-related research.
The university plans to spend approximately $1 million over the next three years as it launches a new initiative as part of President Ann Weaver Hart’s strategic plan for the university.
The Arizona Daily Star (https://bit.ly/1kXRwU2 ) reports the new Defense and Security Research Institute will attempt to match up the research needs of government and industry with expertise at the university.
The university is attempting to meet a goal set by the state Board of Regents to double the university’s total research spending from about $600 million to $1.2 billion over the next decade.
