NEW YORK (AP) - The New York City sergeants’ association and taxi drivers will partner together to help reduce crime.

The New York Post (https://bit.ly/1iTA56Y ) says the Sergeants Benevolent Association also will teach cabbies how to protect themselves against violent passengers.

They will work together to combat crime ranging from low-level offenses to terrorism.

The association’s executive director, Ethan Gerber, says police officers and cabdrivers are on the streets day and night and can be the “eyes and ears helping” police.

Sergeants will visit taxi garages throughout the city to train drivers on what to do if they see suspicious activity.

They also will provide them with ways to handle high-stress situations that could lead to road rage.
