PHOENIX (AP) - The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors on Monday selected longtime school board member Norma Munoz to fill an Arizona House midterm vacancy created by Rep. Ruben Gallego’s resignation to run for Congress.

Munoz is a Phoenix Democrat who is president of the Roosevelt Elementary School District board.

The appointee to the Legislative District 27 seat by law had to have the same party affiliation as Gallego, and a citizens panel picked by the supervisors nominated Munoz and two other Democrats for the opening.

Like Munoz, nominees Reginald Bolding Jr. and Rebecca Rios also are running for a House seat in the August Democratic primary election.
