LOS LUNAS, N.M. (AP) - A man is hospitalized after being shot by Los Lunas police officers who were investigating a vehicle theft.

KRQE-TV (https://bit.ly/1jmoMXA ) reports that the shooting is being investigated by New Mexico State Police.

Authorities say the shooting occurred at an apartment complex Sunday night when officers spotted a stolen car that had been involved in a police chase earlier in the weekend in Belen.

According to police, a man and a woman began to approach the officers and the man then pointed a rifle at the officers when they told him to put it down.

State Police say the Los Lunas officers responded by shooting the man. His identity hasn’t been released.
