HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) - Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen won’t resign in the wake of a Nevada Supreme Court ruling over term limits.

The Las Vegas review-Journal (https://bit.ly/1guZFje ) reports Hafen intends to defend his standing as mayor if a lawsuit is filed challenging his qualifications.

Last week Rick Workman, who lost to Hafen in last year’s election, asked the mayor to voluntarily step down.

The move follows a 5-2 ruling last month by the Supreme Court in a Reno case. Justices said term limits prohibit members of the city council who have served 12 years from running for mayor and serving on the same governing body.

Hafen has served 22 years on the Henderson City Council, 10 of which came after term limits kicked in. He was elected mayor in 2009 and re-elected last year.
