ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Emmy award winning actress Cynthia Nixon is in Albany asking Gov. Andrew Cuomo and legislative leaders to increase school aid in the state budget due April 1.

Advocates with the Alliance for Quality Education say Monday the current budget falls short of what the Board of Regents has recommended.

The former co-star of “Sex and the City” was joined at the state Capitol by school superintendents arguing for more equity in school funding.

Nixon says she voted for Cuomo in 2010 after he said educational inequality was a major civil rights issue and the state is responsible for addressing it.

Nixon has been active in state and city politics and lobbied for the legalization of same-sex marriage in New York in 2011.
