OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Houston Astros say Oklahoma City RedHawks manager Tony DeFrancesco has been diagnosed with cancer.

The Astros said Sunday that the manager of their Triple-A farm team was diagnosed earlier this month during the major league team’s spring training camp in Florida. No other details of the cancer were released.

The Astros say DeFrancesco was undergoing a physical when he told doctors about symptoms he was experiencing and was referred to a specialist who diagnosed the cancer. The team says doctors indicated the cancer was found early and are optimistic for a full recovery.

DeFrancesco will undergo treatments at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston during the next five to six weeks and hopes to return as RedHawks manager in May.

Oklahoma City coach Tom Lawless will serve as interim manager.
