GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Cole Huggins made 25 saves to lead Minnesota State to a 4-1 victory over Ferris State on Saturday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association championship game to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

This was the first Broadmoor Trophy, given to the WCHA playoffs winner, taken home by the Mavericks (26-13-1) in their 15th season in the league. Their unbeaten streak was stretched to 13 games, behind goals from Mike Huntebrinker, Brett Stern, Brett Knowles and Teddy Blueger.

Huggins, a freshman, has started 19 of the last 21 games. He raised his record to 21-7-1.

The NCAA tournament field will be revealed on Sunday.
