SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - The Baltimore Orioles claimed infielder David Adams off waivers from the Cleveland Indians on Saturday.

To make room for Adams on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated left-handed pitcher Kelvin De La Cruz for assignment.

Adams batted .193 with two home runs and 10 RBIs for the New York Yankees in 2013. With Manny Machado still sidelined, Baltimore was looking for additional infield depth.

De La Cruz, who has never pitched in the majors, was signed in November by the Orioles. He was 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in six spring games.
