Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh may be up for a children’s book award.
The Children’s Book Council (CBC) and its Every Child a Reader program released their author-of-the year finalists for their annual Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards on Thursday, and the man with the Golden EIB microphone was on the list of four finalists, CNN reported.
His book, “Rush Revere and The Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans,” has been on the New York Times bestsellers’ list for 20 weeks. It is the second to come out in the “Rush Revere Series,” published by Simon & Schuster.
Mr. Limbaugh described the project on his radio show as “a unique way of reaching the target audience here, which is America’s young people — who are, sadly, not being taught what is in this book.”
The CBC issues a public letter on its website, defending its finalist selection and addressing the social media uproar following the announcement saying the finalists are “determined solely based on titles’ performances on the bestseller lists.”
The organization said in the letter that the kids, who vote on the titles next week, will ultimately decide which author wins in each of the six categories, including best author. The CBC said that it had procedures in place to ensure that adult’s were not voting in the contest.
