MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia University sociology professor is being recognized for his work in criminal justice.

The Morgantown school says Walter DeKeseredy has been awarded the prestigious Critical Criminal Justice Scholar Award by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.

Officials say the award honors a scholar for distinguished accomplishments in scholarship, teaching or service over at least a two-year period.

DeKeseredy has published 19 books and more than 160 scientific journal articles and book chapters on violence against women and other topics.

WVU says DeKeseredy’s most recent work has focused on the enhanced dangers of intimate partner violence for women in rural settings compared to women in urban or suburban settings seeking to end relationships.
