CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - State Treasurer Mark Gordon says his office recently helped more than 1,400 people be reunited with more than $300,000 in unclaimed funds.

The Unclaimed Property Division in the treasurer’s office oversees money that for one reason or another can’t be paid to their rightful owners.

The treasurer’s office periodically runs ad campaigns to make people aware of the program and the possibility the state might be holding money that is rightfully theirs.

The service is free of charge. Gordon said Friday anybody who charges a fee to return funds isn’t an employee of his office.

He says anybody who thinks the state might be holding money that belongs to them can call his office to find out if that’s the case.
