CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has asked the federal government to reconsider denying extra financial assistance after a January chemical spill.
Tomblin sent a letter Friday to President Barack Obama and Federal Emergency Management Agency regional administrator MaryAnn Tierney.
Tomblin called the spill “unprecedented” that warrants further federal assistance.
West Virginia’s congressional delegation made a similar request last week.
On Feb. 12, FEMA denied Tomblin’s request for reimbursement for first responders, nonprofits and public agencies that assisted during the spill.
Tomblin estimated a $61 million economic impact in the nine affected counties.
