LAS VEGAS (AP) - Gov. Brian Sandoval says Nevada has inked its first contract with a drone industry company, and is working with 15 to 20 more companies interested in setting up shop in the state.

The news was revealed Thursday when Sandoval sat down for an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s editorial board (https://bit.ly/1kOtWZO).

Sandoval didn’t reveal the names of the companies.

Nevada was among six states selected last year by the Federal Aviation Administration to serve as test sites for drones. Officials from the six states were meeting this week with FAA officials in New Jersey.

Sandoval says landing test site status will bring more sustainable jobs to the state, which is trying to diversify its tourism-dominated economy.
