SANTA TERESA, N.M. (AP) - Federal officers seized nearly 29 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $915,000 that was hidden in a pickup truck being driven into the United States from Mexico at a crossing in southern New Mexico.
Customs and Border Protection says officers found the cocaine Thursday in a pickup truck at the Santa Teresa port of entry.
Port Director Ray Provencio says a dog alerted to the firewall area of the truck after an officer selected the vehicle for secondary inspection.
Drilling into the firewall area produced a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine, and 12 bundles of cocaine were then found in a hidden compartment.
A 40-year-old man from Mexico was arrested.
