TEMPE, Ariz. — A former president, a onetime Republican presidential nominee and perhaps a future White House candidate are gathering this weekend in Arizona for a meeting of college students who are tackling challenges around the world.
Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, ex-Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, were joining with Arizona Sen. John McCain on Friday night for the seventh annual Clinton Global Initiative University conference featuring students who commit to service projects to address global problems.
The meeting brings together stalwarts of the Democratic and Republican parties as the former first lady is considering another presidential campaign. McCain was the GOP’s 2008 nominee and served with Mrs. Clinton in the Senate.
More than 1,000 students representing about 300 colleges and universities will gather this weekend at Arizona State University.
