Even Pat Sajak couldn’t believe the win one “Wheel of Fortune” player grabbed, with only two letters for a clue.
Emil de Leon’s Wednesday night clue of a “thing” read this way: N-E-blank followed by a four-letter word followed by a five-letter word. With $45,000 on the line, he guessed correctly — with seconds to spare.
“New baby buggy,” he said, various media reported. Apparently, the show’s powers-who-be were so shocked that he hit the right answer that it took a couple seconds for the board to register that he was right — time that Mr. de Leon then spent giving additional guesses, Today.com reported.
TMZ reported that Mr. Sajak and letter turner Vanna White pulled him aside after the show and commented that he was one of the best players the game’s ever seen.
Mr. de Leon is a nursing student at the NCP College of Nursing in San Francisco, and he credits his unbelievable win on the fact he had babies on his mind during the taping of the show, in January. That’s when he was taking a pediatrics course at school TMZ said.
