CORNELIUS, N.C. (AP) - U.S. Senate candidate and House Speaker Thom Tillis has tweaked his biographical information in some places to make clear where he earned his college degree as an adult.

Some Tillis web pages have said he graduated from the University of Maryland or the University of Maryland at College Park in the mid-1990s.

Tillis’ campaign says he actually graduated from what’s called University of Maryland University College - a distance-learning arm of the Maryland university system unaffiliated with the College Park flagship campus.

Tillis campaign spokesman Jordan Shaw said Thursday aides and vendors assembling web pages made the mistake and it’s been fixed. He says the schools’ names are confusing and that Tillis’ resume and a Facebook page were already accurate.

The Talking Points Memo blog first reported the discrepancy.
