NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - UMass Lowell’s Raz Bracha and Garrett Cole combined to pitch the sixth no-hitter in school history, but the River Hawks lost to Yale 1-0 on a squeeze bunt Wednesday.
With one out in the fifth inning, Green Campbell was hit by a pitch from Bracha and moved to second on an infield error and went to third on a wild pitch. Brent Lawson put down a bunt along the first-base line and Campbell scored.
The tough-luck loss still goes down as UMass Lowell’s first no-hitter since Vinny DePierro threw a seven-inning no-no against St. Michael’s in 2011.
Bracha (1-1) struck out one and walked one in six innings, while Cole fanned one in two innings for UMass Lowell (8-3). Chris Lanham allowed four hits and struck out seven in five innings, while Chris Moates earned the save for Yale (6-5).
