Nearly 20 years after Nirvana frontman and grunge icon Kurt Cobain was found dead from a shotgun wound to the head, Seattle police have decided to re-examine the investigation.

In April of 1994, a medical examiner determined the cause of death was suicide, but King County police have decided to re-examine the death after four rolls of 35 mm film taken at the scene were finally developed last month.

A local news station will air a televised report Thursday night at 11 that asks why it took so long to develop the film that had just been sitting stagnant in a Seattle police evidence vault.

According to the station, the pictures have a slight green tint because of deterioration, but police say they more clearly show the scene than the earlier Polaroid photos taken by investigators.

The final investigation report has not been completed, and the images of Cobain dead at the scene will not be released, police said

The station did, however, obtain one of the images from the scene and will reveal it during the Thursday special. Police will also explain why they wanted to examine that particular photo as part of the investigation.

A Seattle police department spokeswoman said last year that they get at least one request per week to re-examine the Cobain investigation, the station reported.
