CHICAGO (AP) - Violinist Itzhak Perlman is set to appear on the stage of Chicago’s Civic Opera House for the first time.
The Lyric Opera of Chicago announced Wednesday that Perlman is scheduled to perform April 6. He’ll be joined by pianist and frequent collaborator Rohan De Silva.
The program will include works by Beethoven, Richard Strauss, Debussy and others.
Anthony Freud is general director of the Lyric Opera. He says Perlman’s performance “is indeed a historic event.”
Perlman has won numerous Grammy Awards and has performed at both Chicago’s Symphony Center and at Ravinia.
Freud calls him “the reigning violin virtuoso of our time.”
