BERWICK, Pa. (AP) - A nuclear reactor at a Pennsylvania power plant has been shut down after the discovery of a leaky water valve.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said workers found the leak during a startup of Unit 2 at PPL’s Susquehanna nuclear facility near Berwick. The reactor had been shut off for maintenance work on its turbines.
PPL said Thursday that the reactor was turned off so the valve could be fixed. The Unit 1 reactor remains at full power.
NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan said inspectors will monitor repairs.
The plant is about 95 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
