RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A General Assembly committee is expected to consider whether to recommend that the North Carolina Legislature pass a law to make certain state employees who work closely with a contractor wait some time before going to work for the vendor.
Oversight panel co-chairwoman Rep. Julia Howard told colleagues Wednesday they’ll discuss next month draft legislation creating a waiting period for such workers.
The idea gained attention after a senior program manager working on the state’s new Medicaid billing system went to work right away last year for the outside company running the system.
State legislators and some state employees must wait six months after they leave office or jobs before they can lobby. State Auditor Beth Wood’s office recommended a similar law for vendor work.
The Legislature reconvenes in May.
