LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Fire officials in Lincoln plan to buy a nearly $330,000 fire truck to replace an older model.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue says the fire engine from a Snyder-based manufacturer is a reasonably priced replacement for an older engine that had started to rust. Fire Chief John Huff says operators of the older engine felt it was unsafe for the road.
The Lincoln Journal Star reports (https://bit.ly/1kMikXb ) the new engine is the first bought by the department since 2006. That’s when the purchase of seven engines aimed at replacing half of an aging fleet led to controversy. The former fire chief resigned over the issue, and Huff was let go before he was reinstated.
The latest engine was purchased through a government purchasing cooperative.
