LAS VEGAS (AP) - The runner-up in Henderson’s mayoral race wants Mayor Andy Hafen to resign in the wake of a Nevada Supreme Court ruling.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal (https://bit.ly/NxGqJ5 ) reports Rick Workman, through his attorney, sent a letter to Henderson’s city attorney saying Hafen doesn’t meet qualifications to continue serving as mayor.

He wants Hafen to voluntarily step down.

The move follows a 5-2 ruling last month by the Supreme Court in a Reno case. Justices said voter approved term limits prohibit members of the city council who have served 12 years from running for mayor and serving on the same governing body.

Hafen has served 22 years on the Henderson City Council, 10 of which came after term limits kicked in. He was elected mayor in 2009 and re-elected last year.
