HAYSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - State police say a trucker was killed in southern Indiana when his semi loaded with turkeys overturned on a rural highway.
The crash happened Wednesday night on Indiana 56 near the Dubois County community of Haysville. State police Sgt. Philip Hensley says the driver lost control on a curve, causing it to roll onto the driver’s side and slide nearly 70 feet off the highway.
Hensley says a trooper drove upon the crash soon after it happened, climbed into the cab and tried to revive the driver, but 50-year-old Donald Humphrey of Jasper was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck was hauling more than 900 turkeys, many of which were killed from the crash. The highway was closed for nearly five hours so it could be cleaned up.
