NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - Two former members of the street gang blamed for much of the drug-related violence in a Hudson Valley city have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms.
The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (https://bit.ly/1gdMS4y ) that Anthony Boykin was sentenced Tuesday to life plus 32 years in prison, while Justin Simmons was sentenced to 50 years. Both were sentenced by a U.S. District Court judge in Manhattan.
Federal prosecutors say Boykin was a leader of the Bloods street gang in the city of Newburgh. Authorities described Simmons as a solider in the gang, which prosecutors say has a “legacy of drugs and violence” in Newburgh.
Boykin was convicted last June of murdering a Newburgh man in 2009.
Boykin and Simmons were both convicted on charges of racketeering and numerous drug charges.
