CHICAGO (AP) - The Illinois Department of Transportation is warning motorists of ice- and snow-covered roads throughout the state.

IDOT Secretary Ann Schneider says people should not travel if they don’t have to so crews can clear and salt icy roads and bridges that are making driving treacherous

She says road crews are seeing many spinouts and crashes.

The National Weather Service says snow, sleet and freezing rain will continue to fall overnight in some areas. Blowing and drifting snow may reduce visibility.

Schneider says IDOT has more than 1,200 trucks on the roads.

She says motorists can check for the latest road conditions and closures at www.gettingaroundillinois.com.
