An Arlington County snow plow driver captured on video driving the wrong way down a local Virginia road was then involved in a multi-car wreck that he started by running right through a stop sign, police said.
The plow driver, unnamed in the report but listed as 51 years old, was working to clear streets of snow that struck the Washington, D.C., region earlier this week. He apparently blew right through a stop sign and struck a Toyota Highlander, Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said, ARL.com reported. That Highlander then rammed into two parked cars.
The good news: No injuries. The snow plow driver was cited by police for disregarding the stop sign, ARL.com reported.
The bad news: The plow driver shouldn’t have been on the road at all, given just two hours earlier he was captured on video riding down the wrong side of the road and terrorizing other drivers.
Local filmmaker Jason Berry was one of the plow driver’s victims and described to local police how he was nearly pushed off the road by the wayward plow, ARL.com reported. And Arlington County Board members watching the video of the scene said the plow driver ought to be handed some punishment.
“I think all of us saw that video and thought, ’Oh my God,’ ” said the board chairman, Jay Fisette, in ARL.com. “That was horrible. It’s inconceivable to me that there’s a justification for driving a [snow plow] down the wrong side of the road. It was quite amazing to watch the video. We were just fortunate that nothing terrible … came of that particular driving experience.”
The county manager, meanwhile, said the snow plow driver would receive some disciplinary action, pending the outcome of an investigation.
