Sen. Mark Udall, Colorado Democrat, is clinging to a 2-point lead in his re-election bid against GOP Rep. Cory Gardner, said a new survey from the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling (PPP).
Mr. Udall leads Mr. Gardner, 42 percent to 40 percent — well within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points. It’s PPP’s first poll that tests Mr. Udall in a match-up against Mr. Gardner, who recently entered the race; the first-term Democrat had a four-point lead in a match-up against Republican Ken Buck in December.
The poll shows Mr. Gardner as the overwhelming favorite among GOP primary contenders.
Forty-one percent of voters approve of Mr. Udall’s job performance, and 40 percent disapprove.
The survey of 568 registered voters was taken from March 13-16. Eighty percent of the interviews were conducted over the phone, and 20 percent of respondents were interviewed over the Internet to reach people who don’t have landlines.
